Wire mesh and colors abstracts

 

Paying attention to details, this standard wire mesh looks very interesting with its shadows against a warning sign. Geometric patterns are mixed together and produce this enhanced view of three dimension. My picture taken on March 2nd 2017 at the local park, in the late afternoon.

Arts and 3D architecture

 

 This is the art of Hwang Seon Tae, it's like an acrylic panel with a dull grey architectural composition. A picture has to be taken in order to see the shadows and the 3D image. I took the picture together with ten more people, and once I was done, I saw a handwritten tiny sign around the stand corner "do not take pictures", which I think was a joke.....From Los Angeles Art Show 2017.

 I love the way these tridrimensional metal models have been done, somehow they look 2D, depending on the point of view, or even 3D renders, but they are mass models attached to one single color panel. This is the work of Kim Byungjoo. Exhibited at Los Angeles Art Show 2017, my pictures taken yesterday.

Textures in the water channel

Just in front of the engineers' office, there has been civil works of parkings and drainages. This drainage has no slope and it's blocked as well. One of the engineers is always complaining about this and the rotten water that is left. To calm him down, I promised him to take an abstract picture (I have two already) to see the problem under a different light :) I see a face of a man in the middle looking at me in desperation, he is trapped.

Dry leaves and pines are also adding abstract beauty in this channel.

The Festival of Flowers in Little Saigon, Westminster

In the preparations for the Tet celebration, let´s say the Vietnamese New Year, the Festival of Flowers is one of the events in Little Saigon, in the city of Westminster, Southern California. And I was lucky to be present at this urban event, to visit the stands, specially for the beautiful orchids that were on display.

I was somehow confused because I knew about the Chinese New Year which is celebrated in Chinatown Los Angeles, and had to read in Wikipedia the meaning of the celebrations, that I reproduce here:

¨Tết (Northern Vietnamese, Southern Vietnamese), or Vietnamese New Year, is the most important celebration of Vietnamese culture. The word is a shortened form of Tết Nguyên Đán (Nôm: 節元旦) , which is Sino-Vietnamese for "Feast of the First Morning of the First Day". It celebrates the arrival of spring based on the Vietnamese calendar, a lunisolar calendar, which usually has the date falling between the months of January or February. Tết is celebrated on the same day as Chinese New Year, though exceptions arise due to the one-hour time difference between Hanoi and Beijing resulting in the alternate calculation of the new moon. It takes place from the first day of the first month of the Vietnamese calendar (around late January or early February) until at least the third day. Many Vietnamese prepare for Tết by cooking special holiday foods and cleaning the house. There are a lot of customs practiced during Tết, such as visiting a person's house on the first day of the new year (xông nhà), ancestral worshipping, wishing New Year's greetings, giving lucky money to children and elderly people, and opening a shop. Tết is also an occasion for pilgrims and family reunions. During Tết, Vietnamese visit their relatives and temples, forgetting about the troubles of the past year and hoping for a better upcoming year. They consider Tết to be the first day of spring and the festival is often called Hội xuân (spring festival).¨

Is Mc Donald´s flag comparable to the USA flag?

When my husband is driving and I´m next to him, I usually read, and look through the window to learn  more about cities and inhabitants. Last weekend, I took this quick shot of the well known fast food chain, because I was surprised to see the three flags together: United States, California and Mc Donald´s.

And I was laughing at the implicit meaning, so, the three of them have the same symbolism, are they equal or similar in their importance?

Or is it showing a food ideology for the whole country?

At least the USA flag was in the middle :) Welcome, this is America!

His remarkable photographs take us behind-the-scenes on the construction of the new eastern span of San Francisco’s bay bridge, and are on view at the San Francisco Arts Commission gallery through September.

This is no ordinary construction site — the bridge is the largest self-anchored suspension bridge (SAS) in the world, and it connects the East Bay with San Francisco. Footed in mud strata, with giant shock absorbing fuses embedded underneath the roadway, the bridge is designed to be a seismic neutralizer and provide a lifeline into San Francisco for emergency services even when the surrounding area is flattened. It’s also supposed to last for 150 years.

The solar panels in the parking of Huntington Beach Central Park. The Central Library reflexes and textures

I took this picture today of one of the parking structures with solar panels. This is the last one and see how interesting, there must be a quantity of solar panels per calculation, but at the very end, there is no way to add parkings without affecting the landscape and the natural slopes, so the structure became a roof for a tree.

This is one of the corners of the Huntington Beach Central Library. I love this place.

See the jade green of the pool surrounding the building and the reflexes on the glasses. The landscape never ends...

Kids´ books swap in the streets of Long Beach

I took these pictures in 2nd ST, Long Beach, CA, last weekend.

I´m happy to personally see this book swap, it´s my first time. I´ve read about the books interchange in bus stops, in Israel, Spain and also there are special days in Argentina (not everywhere, in Buenos Aires and some provinces) where you can find books in the streets, even on the sidewalk, you can take them but have the obligation to leave yours.

It is a great idea, isn´t it?
